Indonesia has announced their newest tool for community outreach- a BMKG Vtuber (Badan Meterologi, Klimatology dan Geofisika) to educate the public about meteorology and weather.
Shinna is the newest member of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics body in Indonesia, and will be posting videos to the official Instagram account.
Designed by artist Venera Airo, the BMKG Vtuber’s job will involve making videos to educate the public on weather-related issues.
“Shinna will bring you information on MKG (Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics) that even the most normal viewers can understand”, the official account says.
“Don’t be afraid to ask about MKG phenomena happening in in your region!”, it continues.
Currently, only one video on the Instagram account features Shinna, with her introducing herself and asking fans to submit questions for her to answer.
The Surging Popularity of Vtubers Leading To The BMKG Vtuber
The existence of a BMKG Vtuber seems like the next natural step for the Vtuber phenomena- Vtubers tend to represent a particularly good form of community outreach, to the point that companies like Netflix, Crunchyroll and even AirAsia had their own Vtubers.
Given the popularity of the virtual anime girls in Indonesia, it’s no surprise that a government social media account would turn to this method to educate the public on things like weather phenomena.
