Try as I might, I can’t escape Final Fantasy VII. I’m from the generation where one of the biggest cross-cultural exchanges was every nation having people with the screen name Sephiroth. I’ve seen Tifa go from cute anime girl to cute realistic anime girl to Italian senator.

That is to say, if you like Final Fantasy VII, chances are you love it. You crave more. Final Fantasy VII Remake gave us a Rebuild of Evangelion-style pseudo sequel to the original JRPG, opening the door to so many new ways you could tell a story to a crowd that knows the ins and outs of the PS1 classic.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC version brings its sequel to the wonderful world of PC gaming. From a content standpoint its every Final Fantasy VII fan’s dream come true- the game seemingly takes less time to explore that whole “how can we take this game’s story further” in favor of giving you a protein bar-density level chunk of stuff, and the ability to experience that stuff with the characters who filled your sketchbooks growing up.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC

Seriously, this game is obsessed with your obsession with Final Fantasy VII. From team-up attacks for different characters in your party (Aerith and Barrett’s one in particular is cute) to the introduction and expansion of popular characters like Cait Sith and Vincent Valentine, this is the game you want to play even if you haven’t touched Remake. It’s Final Fantasy VII for the sake of Final Fantasy VII, and you’ll want to savor every one-winged crumb.

Even what’s supposed to be a simple prologue mission is lovingly drenched in fanservice. Want to see Cloud and Sephiroth team up? What if the iconic scene of Sephiroth against a backdrop of flame has a massively enhanced buildup? You’ve probably reimagined Nibelheim as a kid, and now you can see it done in glorious 4K.

Oh, And Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version Is A Good RPG, Too

Even as an RPG, you’re sure to enjoy scouring the world for Chocobos, side quests or even just building materia for your various characters and engaging with the ATB action-hybrid combat system.

Despite the huge content offer, the PC version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is well optimized- I’m a few steps back from the cutting edge of gaming and you’re not sacrificing much in the way of looks to get a game that runs well considering how big the maps are, partially thanks to the game’s NVIDIA DLSS.

Meanwhile, if you’re the type to spend on your PC like it’s your firstborn you’re sure to enjoy features like 120fps and 4k resolution support, so you can really see what makes the Final Fantasy VII Remake series so beloved. It’s production value and legacy jammed together with a splash of “what do you think would really make the fans pop off?”.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC version is available now on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
