Nintendo has announced the long anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, the follow-up to the hotly anticipated Nintendo Switch.
Though no release date was given yet, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released within 2025, with a proper introduction via a Nintendo Direct on April 2nd 2025.
Nintendo Switch 2 Features
At least physically, the new console isn’t as radical a departure from its predecessor as the Switch was from the WiiU or 3DS- it retains a lot of the core ideas and gimmicks.
One big change is in the joycons themselves- rather than sliding in they have dedicated ports that plug in from the side and snap on magnetically.
Speaking of ports, it looks like the console will also be borrowing from the PC handhelds that boomed after the original’s release, with a USB-C port on the top and bottom of the console.
Finally, it also sports an overall bigger screen and joy-cons, creating an ultimately more robust device. with a new kickstand.
On the software side, while no launch titles have been announced, Nintendo has confirmed that the console is fully backwards compatible- being able to even play physical versions of Switch 1 games.
