According to him, the office has been open since April 29th, and the video was of the opening ceremony which included an office tour as well as lion dances throughout the space.

This isn’t the first time that EA has made landfall in Malaysia- the EA-owned Codemasters also has a studio in KL, working on games such as the F1 series of racers.

The studio is an active member of the local game development scene, with Codemasters Malaysia being present at events like Level Up KL.

It’s not currently known just what kind of work the new EA Malaysia office will be doing- EA has multiple game development studios under its wing, while also being a major publisher.

We’ve reached out to EA Malaysia for comment on this matter and will update following their response.

EA Malaysia And Game Development In The Country

EA Malaysia
EA owns franchises like the Sports FC franchise, which are incredibly popular in Malaysia

That being said, given the popularity of EA-published titles like the EA Sports FC series in Malaysia, it makes sense to have an office in the country- both for pulling more local talent as well as marketing to local audiences.

It joins the ranks of multiple international studios based in Malaysia- such as Bandai Namco Studios, PlayStation Studios as well as Virtuos KL.
