Near the end of 2022, creator of the Nier series, (Nier Automata, Nier Replicant) game creator Yoko Taro has posted on twitter, sharing some of his observations in bookshops, as well as his thoughts on human interactions. The tweet writes:

"It's been a while since I wrote a note

I've been thinking about some negative stuff near the end of year.
>"Self Care" Trend, Thereafter"

The contents of the post in Note website are translated as of below:

"Self Care" Trend, Thereafter

I've been frequently visiting the Pyschology and Philosphy corner in bookstores,

As a professional storywriter myself, I feel compelled to learn about "What other people are thinking", of which I am quite interested in.

It could be out of fondness, or could be due to cognitive psychology.

And so, I've visited a bookstore nearby, and noticed the increase in books related to Mental care.
The contents of these books all focuses towards ideas of

You are weak

Your self esteem is low

But its okay to stay this way and be you

Thus, I believe that "I am weak, I wish to be recognised" is the mainstream readers of the current market.

—————————-

But just as I've made this conclusion, I was at awe when I went to the bookstore in the commercial street.

The books there were mainly titled: "How to build a stronger self"

Those "You are weak" kind of books are nowhere to be found.

I doublechecked as I thought I was at the business studies corner, but it was the psychology corner, no doubt.

Surrounded by the elites from these skyscraper business towers, I guess they don't really have time to make themselves weak.

—————————-

Though at a glance, these 2 type of people seemed different,

But they have a certan degree of similarity, which is

"Treat Yourself better"

"Strengthen Yourself"

I guess this is what they call "Psychology", or it may be that

"Gods" that requires human to devote their whole life no longer exist,

that might be the case.

Everyone loves themselves,

But what if its towards "someone else"?

———————————————————-

After changing the subject to "other people",

"Treat others better"

"Strengthen others"

It would look something like this.

I've never seen books with these titles in the Psychology corner……Pretty sure I've never seen them there, but then I believe that they belong to a totally different catergory.

Something related to Education, Coaching, Teambuilding……? It does feel kinda weird.

And it is this kind of feelings, feelings of wishing others happiness are almost never seen in books.

"Ahh, humans are so self-centered, could care less about others, a cold-blooded species."

But I didn't really mean by that.

What I'm trying to say is that, the market of "Treating others better" are quite vacant now, isn't it?

Those were my actual thoughts.

——————————

In this current world filled with "自分大好き" (I love myself), the value of treating others better will rise.

Nowadays, "This person is friendly towards others" "I feel at peace when that person is around".

Can only be expressed ambigously in these impressionism-like sentences.

Will these ideas be materalised in the future, to a state where systems exists to calculate them?

Treating other people with kinder words, picking up trash that nobody wants to pick, accepting troublesome tasks, helping people that are in trouble,

Arranging goods that are messed up in stores, giving donations and sorts.

These behaviour, can be visualied like posts in SNS, a world where friendly people are praised upon.

If the value shifts from "Self Care" to "Care Others",a friendlier world can be created.

No, as livefeed stories and AI surveillance system are becoming more common, such a world will be coming naturally, right?

A dystopian future can easily be imagined, but a world where people treats others kindly, isn't that just beautiful as well?

Everybody thinks that way,

Right?
