Helldivers 2 Steam launch is off to a great start, with almost 200,000 players playing the game over its opening weekend.
According to SteamDB, the game had an all-time peak of 196,000 players- making it the most successful PlayStation title on PC above games like God of War and Days Gone.
It also massively beats out the original Helldivers, which peaked at 6,000 users on PC.
In the interest of balance though, titles like God of War and Days Gone are single-player experiences, wherein stats like concurrent player count dont’ really matter: the former reportedly has 2.4 million units sold while the latter sports 1.7 million.
These numbers only account for PC, however, and the number on PS5 has yet to be announced.
Similarly, Gamalytic esimates the game at 1 million units sold on PC, though there’s been no official announcement to back this up.
How Helldivers 2 Steam Launch Succeeded
Two of the big reasons for the game’s success on PC are to do with its release- for one, unlike other titles Helldivers 2 Steam launch was day-and-date with its PlayStation release.
Secondly, the game also sports crossplay between the two, stopping any discussion of which version would have all the players.
It’s another chapter in the discussion of putting otherwise console exclusives on PC- there’s an audience that will play them there, given the chance.
