During TGS 2022,  Head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Masayoshi Yokoyama and executive producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto had an interview with Denfami, and the main points are as of below:

 ・“Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name” is a title that exist only because of “Like a Dragon 8”, and while writing the story for “Like a Dragon 8”, it felt needed to explain to players how Kazuma Kiryu made his way to reach where he is now in the story. Besides, for many western fans, “Like a Dragon 7” was their first game, thus the Gaiden serves just right to show how strong Kazuma Kiryu actually is;

・There will be no plans of releasing the Like a Dragon series on the Nintendo Switch, as Masayoshi Yokoyama believes that games developed by the Ryu Ga Gotoku studios belong to the night, and the products sold on the Nintendo Switch belong to the day. It’s just like how romcoms in CD shops wouldn’t be shelved together with gangster films;
Kazuma Kiryu’s new look is a change decided by the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios during the development of “Like a Dragon 8” to reflect on his age and growth, there were many versions before it got finalised, varying from hair length, beard, glasses and so forth. Yokoyama believes that by changing the hair length, one can get a big change in image. One of the versions looked a lot like Mr Yokoyama himself.
