Paramount Pictures has put out the first trailer for Transformers One, the new animated Transformers prequel movie.
Transformers One will release in theatres September 20th, and features Chris Hemsworth Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi with Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.
While previous Transformers movies tend to focus on the robot + Human friendship story, this one foregoes the tradition to tell a largely underrepresented part of Transformers canon- the days of Orion Pax, the robot who would later become Optimus Prime.
Based on the trailer, it looks like Transformers One is going entirely new with this adaptation- here, Orion and D-16 (the Cybertronian who would later become Megatron as well as Eita-1 and Bumblebee as they receive hte ability to transform after venturing to Cybertron’s surface.
Not much else is known about the plot for the movie- though from the trailer it looks like a typical prequel movie about a group of friends with one of them probably becoming evil by the end of it.
The World Of Non Human Transformers Stories Doesn’t Start With Transformers One
Funnily enough, while many fans had been begging for Transformers stories without a human character in it, it’s not like they’re entirely unheard of- the Cyberverse cartoon series also ditched any human characters to instead focus on a purely Cybertronian cast.
Similarly, the Transformers comics by IDW were largely praised for their Cybertron-focused stories- with the “Phase 2” series of comics even touching on their own interpretation of Orion Pax and Megatron.
There’s also the case of the Transformers War For Cybertron games, which told similar prequel stories as third person shooters.
