Capcom has confirmed that the upcoming finals for the Capcom Cup X will not feature any trailer for Akuma, following fan anticipation for the character.

In a statement on Twitter today, they confirmed that any announcements at Capcom Cup X would only be esports related.

“As we will be focused on the competition at hand, we’d like to provide advance notice that there won’t be any new gameplay or content reveals at Capcom Cup X”, the statement reads. “However, there will be more esports news coming at Capcom Cup X, so stay tuned!”.

In hindsight, it makes sense that there wouldn’t be an Akuma trailer at Capcom Cup X- the most recent DLC fighter, Ed, only just had his gameplay shown, with games tending to have a bit of a gap between DLC.

Still, Akuma remains one of the fan-favorite Street Fighter characters, with many anticipating the character’s release since he was first announced as part of the DLC lineup.

Currently, the character is slated for a “Spring 2024” release date,

The Capcom Cup X finals are set to run from February 21st to February 25th, with three days of group stages before top 16 on the 25th.

This year’s edition of Capcom Cup made headlines with the announcement of a 2 million USD prize pool, with 1 million for first place.
