One of the big additions with the Next Fes update to the Hololive fighting game was the addition of Idol Showdown Boss Characters- challenging fights you can encounter in the game’s Virtual Frontier mode.
That being said, it’s not like these characters are only opponents- the developers have included ways to play as the Idol Showdown Boss characters.
How To Unlock Idol Showdown Boss Characters
Rather than just being a cheat code, the Idol Showdown Boss characters need to be first purchased from the in-game store, accessible via the Extras menu. You can only purchase three of the four bosses:
- ERROR Sora
- R-TRUS (Machina X Flayon)
- Ouro Kronii
Each character is available for 750 coins each. There’s two primary ways to grind coins quickly- either by playing the Virtual Frontier roguelike mode, or by grinding the arcade mode.
It should be noted that for the Arcade mode the coin reward does not scale with difficulty, so you’ll be getting about 175 coins per run.
Once you purchase the characters, they have to be selected by choosing cosplay 3,1 then 2 for the related character. There’s no confirmation sound, so what you need to do is just go into the battle after selecting the 2 Cosplay Palette for the related character. Note this only works after buying the character in the store.
- ERROR Sora- Tokino Sora
- R-TRUS- Kureiji Ollie
- Ouro Kronii- Ninomai Ina’Nis
After unlocking the boss character, don’t forget to try them out in Arcade Mode- clearing the mode with the character will also unlock alternate colors for them.
Boss characters are available for all the game’s single-player modes, but cannot be taken online. They’re also just the boss versions, with characters like Kronii having armor on most of her moves as well as the ability to fly like Pet Shop in the JoJo fighting game.
How To Unlock Tournament Mode
Besto Game Team also confirmed the addition of a Tournament Mode for Idol Showdown Next Fes, for tournament organizers who don’t want to unlock all the different color palettes in the game. This mode also disables the Idol Showdown Boss Characters, and is just for smoothing out running a tournament.
To access Tournament Mode, all you need to do is go to the Credits section of the game, then hit the buttons for Quick Train and Speed Up Credits. By default, this will be LB+RB+Y or L1+1+Triangle.
It’s a good mode for if you’re just playing with friends over who might want to see all characters palettes or try out stages that you haven’t bought yet.
