Fans can finally rejoice, as the 2023 NIKKE April Fools event builds on the sheer popularity of the original by letting you play as the NIKKE universe’s greatest hater.
Playing as Syuen In The Nikke April Fools Event
While last year’s event let you play as the game’s navigator character Shifty, this year’s gag unit is Missilis CEO Syuen- the antagonistic gremlin who’s constantly abusing the player Commander both verbally and, in some occasions, physically.
Of course, it’s not enough that you get to play as the billionaire brat- she’s also, by NIKKE standards, abjectly terrible. Her crosshair is half the size of the screen as she blind fires her way through the level, her damage is abysmal and, the best part is, she starts cussing after you run out of ammo.
Thankfully, Shift Up Corporation throws us a bone by having Shifty, last year’s April Fools character be playable halfway through.
It’s such a fun celebration of the silliness of NIKKE- Syuen is easily the most loved-to-hate characters in the game, being the mix of diabolically evil but also regular enough to get her comeuppance (she gets gut punched very early on on the story and it’s great).
Better yet, her Burst Animation could easily pass off as fanart, as she does a panicked scream like Aqua from Konosuba with chad depictions of her Matis NIKKE Squad, before they come in instead looking like the fan-made Doro designs.
Unfortunately, just like last year’s NIKKE April Fools event, Syuen isn’t a permanent unit- you won’t be able to add her to your raid lineups any time soon, though for today she does take control of your lobby screen and screams at you if you even try to switch her out.
At the very least the event also gives you lobby wallpapers for both Syuen and Shifty, so you’ll have something to remember them by once Syuen finally leaves your damn office.
