More WB Games live service titles are incoming, the gaming arm of Warner Bros. Discovery is looking to push further into the market citing the volatility of triple-A titles.

In a Morgan Stanly talk, Streaming and Games CEO J.B Perrette said the company would capitalize further on their stable of IPs, which include Harry Potter, the DC Universe and Mortal Kombat, by having more WB Games live service titles.

“We’re doubling down on games as an area where we think there is a lot more growth opportunity that we can tap into with the IP that we have and some of the capabilities we have on the studio where we’re uniquely positioned as both a publisher and a developer of games”, he said.

“Rather than just launching a one-and-done console game, how do we develop a game around, for example, a Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, that is a live-service where people can live and work and build and play in that world in an ongoing basis?”, he adds.

WB Games Live Service: Not A First

That being said, it’s not like dipping their toes into live services is entirely new- the company has licensed out their IP for mobile games before, such as with Harry Potter: Magic Awakened or even the Mortal Kombat mobile game.

Another high-potential WB Games live service is free-to-play platform fighter Multiversus- the game was in an extended open beta for months before suddenly being taken down last year.

Interestingly enough, after Perrette’s comments started being published, the Multiversus Twitter account made another tweet teasing a potential future announcement.

It should be noted though that pivoting to live services isn’t exactly a new idea: Sony Interactive Entertainment had been pitching a similar direction, though in November announced that it was only planning to release six of the 12 in development.

Meanwhile, in the mobile space, many big mobile games had announced their shutdowns, signaling that a shift to free-to-play mobile isn’t the instant-win many in the corporate sector have thought it was.

Some of these titles include games like Love Live: School Idol Festival All-Stars, Yoko Taro’s SINoALICE and Cygames’ World Flipper.,
