It looks like all Overwatch 2 heroes will be moved out of the battle pass and made free starting with the game’s next season.

Via the new Developer Update, game director Aaron Keller said that they’d be changing how they distribute Overwatch 2 heroes back to how it was in the original.

“Heroes are some of the most exciting additions to the game, and we want all of our players to have immediate access to them at launch”, Keller says.

Overwatch 2 Heroes Venture

Starting with the next hero, Venture, future heroes will simply unlock for players rather than require grinding out the battle pass to unlock.

Similarly, previous heroes such as Rammatra and Lifeweaver will be unlocked for players who don’t already have them.

In addition, players will also be able to buy older Mythic Skins via the new Mythic Shop.

The Happenings Of Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 has been in a bit of an identity crisis: the game was an update for the original Overwatch that changed its structure dramatically, by reducing team size and locking heroes to a battle pass.

In return, there was a promise of more single-player story content- something that fans had been asking for for years.

However, this latest update marks yet another walking back of the Overwatch 2 ethos- following the cancellation of the single-player campaign, now even hero distribution is going back to how it was in the first game.
