PlayStation has unequivocally walked back the Helldivers 2 PSN requirements that would have seen players locked out of their games if they didn’t sign up for a PlayStation account.

In a tweet today, they confirmed that the next update would no longer force players to create an account to keep playing.

“The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward”, the statement reads.

“We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans”, it continues.

Helldivers 2 PSN

The decision has had serious ramifications on Helldivers 2, which was previously PlayStation’s most successful launch on PC.

In the days since the original announcement, the game has nosedived in Steam reviews, with many citing the Helldivers 2 PSN requirements as the reason why.

Additionally, the fact that PSN isn’t available in all countries has also been a cause of concern- this has led Helldivers 2 to be delisted in multiple countries and Steam reportedly extending their refund policy for players who would not be able to play the game.
