It looks like fans eager to play Shadow of the Erdtree will have to prep their builds, as Producer Hidetaka Miyazaki explains more about the upcoming Elden Ring DLC.

In an interview with Famitsu, he dished out plenty of details on the upcoming expansion, likening Shadow of the Erdtree’s difficulty to the second half of the game.

“Basically, we have not changed our approach to difficulty from the main series”, he says. “There is freedom in terms of taking on threats, and there are bosses that are challenging, like Malenia in the main story, who do not need to be defeated in the story.”

New Information About Shadow of the Erdtree

Unlike previous Souls expansions, Shadow of the Erdtree will not involve time travel- though Miyazaki did explain that through the game’s environment the players would learn more about Queen Marika and how she became a God.

Similarly, while the main story has players following the Guidance of Grace, Shadows of the Erdtree will instead have you following Miquella’s footsteps, with other NPCs also doing the same.

Accessing the DLC will need you to have defeated Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood in the main story.

The Realm of Shadow is bigger than any previous From Software DLC map, featuring Legacy Dungeons and big open fields with a DLC-only new stat for you to level up

Miyazaki compared these to Attack Power in Sekiro, a system where players could increase their overall damage by offering Boss Memories.

“This is for the “freedom to take on threats,” as I mentioned earlier, and makes it easier to experience things like, “This boss is tough, so let’s explore another place, get stronger, and try again,” even at higher levels”, he says.

“On the other hand, by limiting the increase in “aggressiveness,” players will be able to challenge threats at a lower level”.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Weapons

Some new weapons include a Daito (Japanese longsword), a reverse-grip blade as well as the previously shown off hand-to-hand style reminiscent of a monk.

He also confirmed that there would also be new spells and miracles for players to mess around with.

Finally, he said that at the moment there are no further DLC planned for Elden Ring-.

Elden Ring was a huge success for From Software, outselling the entire combined Souls series before it.
