Skullgirls Soviet Announcer Voice, an alternate set of voice lines for the announcer pack has been replaced for 2nd Encore, with the new version of the content voiced by Team Fortress voice actor Gary Schwartz

The voice pack is available now for free on Steam, with Hidden Variable saying it would be coming to console versions of the game in a future update.

The original Real Soviet Announcer, voiced by former Lab Zero head Mike Zaimont, was removed as part of a controversial overhaul to the game’s assets that toned down a lot of the more risque sprites in the game.

While a formal reason for the removal of the Soviet voice pack was never given, many fans assumed it was part of the messy fallout of Autumn Games separation from Lab Zero.

Schwartz’ take on the Skullgirls Soviet Announcer features two versions of characters names, one with a read of the character’s in-game name and one more with a russian twist, with characters like Double being called Borscht or Filia being the Russian word for little girl.

Gary Schwartz is a beloved member of the Team Fortress 2 community, being the voice behind the Heavy and Demoman characters.

Last year, he made headlines when he and the rest of the cast teamed up for a live-action recreation of Meat The Heavy, the first of the now-iconic Team Fortress 2 character trailers.

He and the rest of the cast have also been filming a variety of skits as their Team Fortress 2 characters.

Skullgirls itself is a community darling of the FGC, having strong fan support and side tournaments at events like EVO.
