Fan-made cart racer Nightmare Kart has been formally been re-announced, after the game had to undergo a facelift.
Sporting 20 racers, 16 maps and the added feature of being legally distinct from any IP owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Nightmare Kart is a fun little cart racer made by the developer of Bloodborne PSX– a retro-style demake of the PlayStation exclusive Soulsborne.
The game is set to launch on May 31st for PC via Steam and Itch.io.
Aside from the obvious racing mode, the game will also feature a campaign complete with bike-borne bossfights- though we haven’t seen what the bosses of Nightmare Kart are going to look like.
Nightmare Kart Reborne
Nightmare Kart originally started as Bloodborne Kart, a fangame parody that saw the denizens of Yharnam’s nightmare get on a variety of vehicles from victorian bikes to literally just running around powered by your own insanity.
However, developer Lilith “Bunlith” Walther said that she’d received a request from Sony Interactive Entertainment to take the game down for using the Bloodborne IP, so the game re-entered development to reshape the art assets into something more distinct.
It’s not an uncommon practice for fangames to suddenly have to rebrand yet keep their popularity- one of the most infamous cases of such at thng was Them’s Fightin’ Herds, which was originally announced as a My Little Pony fighting game.
Bloodborne Kart is itself a community joke, born largely from the community’s desire to see Sony Interactive Entertainment do anything with their exclusive soulsborne IP.
