A fan revival project of the MMORPG "Shin Megami Tensei Imagine" was halted and sued by Atlus.
"Shin Megami Tensei Imagine" launched its servers as early as April 2007 in Japan, and provided service until May 2016. The MMO was loved by SMT fans alike. And the [Re:Imagine] fan revival project aimed to continue running the game on non-official servers, allowing fans to revisit the MMO they loved and meet their demonic servants once again. Atlus began filing a lawsuit against the project since December 2021, and the project owner has only realised that they have been sued until not long ago.
In the legal documents, Atlus stated:"This has caused and will continue to cause irreparable damage to Atlus unless restrained by this Court." And Atlus will continue filing lawsuits unless it is resolved legally. Furthermore, Atlus is seeking the total shutdown of all websites and servers related to the named fan servers, as well as up to $25,000 per violation decided by the court.

Similar fan revival projects or private servers of MMOs that has been ended its services like [Re:Imagine] is actually quite commonly seen all across the world, but most of the time these projects wouldn't be sued directly by the game companies. Thus the whole case and situation has caused dissent and dissatisfaction amongst SMT fans and gamers alike.
